Our commitment to student welfare

We understand that studentfs and their families can be apprehensive about coming to a foreign country. We are absolutely dedicated to making the experience both a safe and enjoyable one. We do this by adhering to the highest standards, some of which are written below. We also provide high levels of personal care and service by employing understanding and professional teachers, counsellors and administrative staff.

MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE: International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. An independent consultant to CCA, after comparing 130 insurance policies world wide, considers the following levels of covers to be appropriate.

Minimum level of cover (NZ$)

$600,000

for hospitalisation, general practitioners, and prescriptions for both accident and sickness.

$600,000

for medical rescue/repatriation should you becomes seriously ill or injured and need to be accompanied home with a medical professional.

$10,000

for funeral expenses and repatriation of the body back home.

$20,000

for accompanying relative cover. If you becomes seriously ill or die, cover is required to support a relative to accompany and support you. This should include the relative's day-to-day accommodation, reasonable living costs and the cost of airfares.

$15,000

to fly you home should a member of your immediate family become critically ill or die.

$20,000

for death or disability benefit.

$1,000,000

for personal liability.

$3,000

for travel delay and missed transport connection.

In addition, the following requirements must also be met:

The insurance commences on the day the student begins their travel.

The insurance applies whilst the student is in transit.

The insurance applies 24 hours a day for the total period of travel overseas.

The insurer must provide 24-hour, 7 day per week emergency services capable of arranging emergency transport.

Any excess or co-insurance must not exceed NZ$1000.

The insurer (or re-insurer) is a reputable and established company with substantial experience in the travel insurance business. The credit rating must be no lower than BBB from Standard and Poors, or B+ from A M Best.

If the student does not have insurance that meets these minimum levels, CCA will obtain insurance at the studentfs expense. This will be Southern Cross StudentMax Insurance which meets or exceeds all the above requirements.  It also includes baggage insurance.  Details can be found on www.southerncross.co.nz.

The consultant also considers the following companies and policies to be appropriate.

Note also:

1                ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES: Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.moh.govt.nz.

2                ACCIDENT INSURANCE: The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz.

3                CCA have counsellors in each studentfs native language available for telephone counseling at any time. The students are given the counsellorfs name and details on the first day of school.

Here at CCA we believe the studentfs time in New Zealand should be one that not only meets their expectations for learning English, but one that exceeds their expectations of a life time experience. We are committed to providing such an experience.
